I might not have been clear - the website and most of its pages will be accessible to anyone who wants to visit it, except for a page that would be for members only. It would have content they'd have to pay to view, in this case Dow trade alerts (which members would also receive via other means e.g. mass email dispatch to all members).
So, as the developer I need to 'play user' and test links etc. Some or most of the free pages will have a link that would take a user to a registration page, and once registered (s)he would need only to log in to the restricted page each day for the alerts.
I may be able to exclude a reg page in the design and only have a login page for a user once that user has submitted a payment for a month of membership via the Shop module.
The web pages are essentially done (but no Shop module purchased, integrated and tested yet), they are the free pages anyone can navigate to and view. But again a user who desires to purchase access to the paid-page content would have to at a minimum log into that page(s).
The ideal would be for me to be able to automate some stuff e.g. record day of month user signed up so that reminders can be sent say 27 days later to renew or lose access. The reg page might help with that. So I just need to set up the link(s) to the reg and/or login page and test to be sure a user can get to those pages via the link(s).

Sorry bigblog, to clarify that last sentence in the paragraph,
'But again a user who desires to purchase access to the paid-page content would have to at a minimum log into that page(s).'
Should have read:
'But again a user who has paid that desires access to the paid-page content would have to at a minimum log into that page(s). '
