Hi,

Is our technology obsolete? Google says Unknown type and couldn't fetch sitemap.xml.

Today is 08/02 and Google couldn't fetch.

What does sitemap feature use for?

Good, if you've added the site in Google Search Console recently, then all you need to do is wait - usually it may take up to 7 days for the site to be indexed by Google robots. Also, note that a custom domain and a SSL would help speed up the process.

Felicia, my site was indexed a long time ago. I have around 3000 pages in all modules but google only crawls 413 pages so I submit the Sitemap xml to Google.
And today 08-09-2021 is 13 days but still couldn't fetch. I will check and again on next Monday 08-16-2021 and let you know the result.

Good, please contact the support team of the Google Search Console, apparently this issue started to appear due to one of their latest updates. They should be able to tell you more or fix this.
