How to enable "Message Editted By..." as a permanent Feature |
Hi All,
I've looked around but can't seem to find the answer to this I want to force the "message editted by" inscription when a post is editted, rather than have it as an option in the "edit message" window, so that it will always appear and the editter does not have a choice of whether to add it or not. Is there any way to do this? |
Yep, but so you don't have the choice of setting the "edited" message... If you have the rights to edit other peoples messages, then if you do, you can't hide the fact you have done so
In fact, like they do here Post edited by titans - Wednesday, 2010-05-19, 0:25 AM

Yes, but on my Forum, when you edit a message, you have a checkbox to decide if you want to put the EDITEDBY in or not, I don't want the User to have that choice.
The Template has it in, but I can't find a way of setting the $EdITEDBY$ variable automatically. like I said, in this Forum it is done that way, so obviously it is possible |
$EDITEDBY$ means, who and when edited a message. For example, my post above, I edited my post earlier on today.
If you do not want a particular user to edit their messages at all. Go to your Panel --> Users (left-hand column) --> User Groups --> Edit group properties or permissions: And then un-tick Edit own post and you can fiddle around with the rest. |
Yes, I saw you had editted your post, I did mine too... When doing so, there was no message option for the "Edited by" inscription, it was done by default.. which is what I want to be able to enable.
I don't want to switch off the users from editting their posts, just to have a notification if anyone has done so (I have a User group of trusted Users that can edit all posts, but as a courtesy and a safeguard, I want their name appearing in any post they have editted, normal Users can edit their own posts, but nobody elses) Anyway, its getting late so off to bed for now.... thanks for your help Lazza Post edited by titans - Wednesday, 2010-05-19, 0:54 AM

Thanks Dartz. I'm in as Admin, so I see it when editting a message.
However... If I use the control bar to change "View Site As" to another User group, I still see it. Hence my confusion thanks for clearing it up. |
