Counting file downloads

Is there a way to count the number of times a file has been downloaded? Or, alternately how many times a link has been clicked? The File Catalog looks like it does that, but I don't want to have to direct people to another page just to click a download link.

Yes possible via custom coding. But We cannot assist you with custom coding.

What kind of custom coding? From what I've seen online the easy way to do it is a php script, but we can't use that here. Does anyone have an example I could look at? Thanks.

You can do using Java script. Use google to find example.
