Guests in Forum ? |
Since this is not a bug and couldn't find any other section nor search answers. So I am posting here.
In order to view our forum, members need a password to log-in. However, I see 'Guests' in the different forum sections daily. These guests cannot be identified. I tried to enter myself as a Guest and cannot do it either. Initially I thought they were registrants or lingering at the log-in window... But when I see them in the sub-forums listed, I realize they are inside. Forum and Blog sections have Code <?if($USER_LOGGED_IN$)?><?endif?> How are these unregistered guests getting in ? Clyde, if you don't want users visiting the forums/blogs use the user permissions to restrict access to them. Conditional operators will work, however the more sound solution is to simply restrict access to those site sections all together. I'll check with our team, however, it will most likely be a system bug.

Clyde, as Paradox suggested, try to limit the permissions via the 'Users' module and inform whether you still have the problem. However, as far as I understand, Guests can't see the pages? The problem is they are displayed under forums as viewers?

if you don't want users visiting the forums/blogs use the user permissions to restrict access to them. I know this...but if I restrict the user group from forum sections, the recent posts informer will not work for any group - it will say "Guests cannot view this". So in order to get that needed function working, I need to check the User Group for forum rights. Yes, that is the mystery since 'unregistered guests' technically cannot log-in. ...yesterday when I logged in there were 9 members logged in and 6 guests ... the un-named guests were viewed in 3 different forum sections. Clyde, okay, so the reasons may be as follows:
1. Some of your users have the forum pages opened in their browser tabs but are not logged in. 2. There are some visitors/search bots from the search engines, as a lot of your forum pages are indexed by Google, for example. Anyway, since guests can't actually view the forum I don't think you have reasons to worry I'm not active on the forum anymore. Please contact other forum staff.
