How could i make them appear in two columns on the main page?
Like this:

Stoyanoff, you can use image editing program to cut image or to re-size it
to smaller one. Also you are able to use HTML code which resizes it in entry.

There are two ways, you can upload image as attachment to the entry then
you will be able to enter custom size next to browse button or you can use
HTML code with width="xx" and height="xx". You can find HTML code here.
