Advertisements in Free Websites

Hi there. I created a few site for testing before, and now I want to create a new, serious site - and I can say that I love this website builder!

Background of problem

Recently, I read/heard some complaints in some threads that uCoz forces disturbing advertisements in free websites. However, from my previous websites, the only advertisement I can see is the ad banner on the top (which I think is not disturbing). I also read a thread some time ago that advertisements containing "adult" material are shown in some websites....

And recently, I visited a uCoz-hosted website, and almost got a heart attack when there was a huge amount of advertisements shown, and some of them had very disturbing "adult" content.

My concerns

Now, I have become a bit worried. My websites may appeal to users under 18 years of age, and I don't want them to see disturbing, "adult" advertisements. So, now, I have come to ask a few questions that will affect the future of my website.

My needs

I don't mind advertisements (as long as they are not disturbing, like text ads) - but they must not be distubing to visitors, and the content must not be unsuitable for audience under 18 years of age!

Questions

1. How many advertisements are shown in free websites?
2. Where are the locations of the advertisements shown?
3. Are the "adult" advertisements I've seen were shown by force from uCoz itself, or did the owner did that?
4. Does uCoz force adult advertisements?

-----
Remember that my questions are for advertisements in free websites. I want to create free website :). Also, I would like to apologize if my English have mistakes - I'm not a native speaker.
Thanks in advance :D! I really value your replies!

1,2. uCoz shows one ad banner on the website (at the top), and one in the website's Control Panel (which site users can't see).
3. I don't know for sure what advertisements you saw (you can PM me a screenshot), but if there were a lot of ads on the website, then they were placed by the site owner.
4. uCoz does not force adult ads (i.e. pornography, violence etc.).

That's basically the answer to all your questions. Though the ad banner may be slightly different depending on your country and site content, basically the ad banner you see on your website is the same banner other visitors from your country will see.

I'm not active on the forum anymore. Please contact other forum staff.

I have a problem Sunny.

http://politic.ucoz.org/

Why are there 3 mega ads on the free websites ? Or are the advertisers injecting extra ads via scripts in uCoz sites ?

I can confirm that all free sites have been infected by this.
I say it is the hand of advertisers playing with you.

Vorpal, yes, additional banners are now being displayed on the free websites (these can be seen only from Romanian IPs). Our technical team is already working on finding the source and fixing this issue as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.
Good things come to those who wait!

I wonder if this was made on purpose by the advertisers or by uCoz. If uCoz can't control these automated scripts from advertisers it should have its own system of advertisements that it can actually control.

Thank you for the update.

I had advertising problems myself when I started out.
They never go away. They just add more.
I think the problem is that the system collects where the visitor has been.
And then collects where you been. And then adds a ucoz ad in there to top it off.
But let's not forget the ones that are supposed to be there.

Anyway. I have found away to not even chance a bad advertisement to my customers
By not even having a website here.

I have given this place a few years to improve there ways.
Nothing has changed from what I see.
The ads - there's to much.

There web builder is cool and everything on how to make your website.
I have liked it for a while. But it's over the top with ads.

Let's say your a used car salesman.
Or work for a really high class company.
Do you really want to have ads that in most cases are not even English ?
And could have bad effects on your company ?

It would suck if your a car salesman.
And then having nothing but the competitors ads on your site.

Or work as a high class business man and have nothing but adult ads on your site.

The point is. The ads could be as random as the weather.
It only takes one bad ad to be fired the next day.
Assuming you have a website for your business.

I have gone thru the " show us a screen capture " process.
I have complained about ads before.
And have been told things would get better. But they haven't.
The thing is. There will always be ads.
There will always be the annoyance of a ad you cant even read.
I can only read English and most the ads are in some other language.
But that's normal here cause these people "ucoz" (most of them) developers, engineers, everything.
They don't speak English as there main language. So there's always going to be that problem with ads.
It's not going away because that's just normal for them. (Understandable)
But at the same time clashes with users or company's that don't speak whatever that language is.
The rate of people making websites. There's no way they can always correct a language problem.
And let me tell you. If your visiting another country and you don't speak there language. Your screwed.
So in which case can be very bad for your company.
My suggestion is to join a place that is located in your country.
And that in most cases are run by people that speak your language. Cause otherwise your just asking for trouble.

Alright don't mean to talk your ear off about ads but I hope you got the idea.
Cause in most cases it's not the vendors problem.
There's just reasons why things happen and you have to live with it.
If you don't like the ads or don't want to bare the chance of one bad ad destroying your chases with a business
Then go to another place. I mean. It's blunt but true you know ?

And I fear that even myself would have to leave soon.
Because this place is somewhat mean. Not all people. But some.
Even the kind that you could of been friends with.
What can I say? It's a cruel world. And the good guy is always going to get bashed around.

Anyway good luck with your ad problems hope they clear up.
But like I was saying before. Sometimes it's just the way it is.

Thanks.

Vorpal, Pancake, we apologize for the inconveniences created, there has been a prolongued technical glitch which will be fixed soon. As we went into the week-end (the technical's team working schedule is Monday-Friday) and the problem was signaled early Friday, a misfortunate delay has happened. We do our best to get it fixed by Monday!

It's official !
This is the new advertisement program for Romania & Romanian IP : 3 x Ads that transform the free site in a link farm.

I guess nobody pays premium package there and this is the solution they found in order to get revenue.

But doesn't this make the free site 100% useless ?
It seems so.

Vorpal, Romanian websites, any visitor from UK, France, Belgium etc. see those ads. (i have visitor that confirm that)

Congratulation uCoz, there's how you can get rid of us.

Horny old lady's on our websites, Can't Believe It sad

A lot of users want to pay to remove these ads, but we don't need your plans with more storage (uCoz provides unlimited storage) , antivirus, Automatic Backup, Max File Size for FTP Uploading, 5 Images or a Discount from Fotolia etc. (some of these are just INVENTED to rise the price)

"Discount from Fotolia" seriously?
I will give you free height resolution photos https://unsplash.com

Just give us an option at a fair price to remove these annoying ads.

Whisper, Vorpal, we are sorry, the 3rd Ad is a system glitch and by now it should be fixed, as only two were supposed to be shown.
This is a test according to the uCoz user agreement terms, point 2.4: http://www.ucoz.com/terms, and any free user should also be open and assume any changes related to it that might appear.

The uCoz prices are probably the lowest from the website builder market and, I will explain briefly why, like I also did on the Romanian Forum. For example, if you purchase any package for 6 months you get a 10% discount, which means a mere 5.49$/month.

But, let's say you buy the "Basic" Package worth 5.99$/month for a year. Here, you automatically get a 20% discount and a premium template worth 15$. This means the real monthly price you are paying for the service is a: 3.51$/month which is around 3 EUR, all for a Website Builder where you can: connect your own domain, have full template control and mobile-ready templates, upload files on the server, have a generous disk space (2GB+), get unlimited traffic to build high scalability projects, flexible hosting permissions, get 5 high quality fotolia images (which cost, by average - good size, at least 5$/each) and so forth.

If you have other alternatives, offering the same options, at the same pricepoint, please share it here!

Nevertheless, we apologize again for the misscommunication and we hope you'll enjoy the uCoz experience further.
