Paid service packages VS separate service

Do separate services provide anything extra outside the exact description of the service (File size for uploading etc.) ?

There is a huge problem in the logic of Paid service packages VS separate service that makes one of them completely useless.

The basic package for 37.08$ for 1 year. gives :

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +800 Mb.
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 1 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 60 Mb (via FTP only).
Option to hide statistics counter.
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms.
Even if the website has no visitors it will NOT be deleted.
Free domain as a gift (e.g. website.com), when you pay for an entire year.

The separate services for 1 year give :

Remove Ad Banner - 32.29$
Disk space +800 Mb - 32.29$
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms - 10.69$
Option to hide statistics counter - 21.49$

Total : 96.76$ vs 37.08$ for Basic package that gives the same or more.

The Business package for 65.88$ for 1 year. gives :

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +1500 Mb.
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 2 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 90 Mb (via FTP only).
Option to hide statistics counter.
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms.
Even if the website has no visitors it will NOT be deleted.
Free domain as a gift (e.g. website.com), when you pay for an entire year.
Subscription fee for the E-shop module.

Here we cannot get Subscription fee for the E-shop module as a separate service.
However the separate services for 1 year gives :

Remove Ad Banner - 32.29$
Disk space +1500 Mb - 53.89$
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms - 10.69$
Option to hide statistics counter - 21.49$

Total : 118.36$ vs 65.88$ for Business package but no E-shop module in the separate package !

The Advanced package for 77.88$ for 1 year. gives :

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +2500 Mb.
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 2 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 135 Mb (via FTP only).
Option to hide statistics counter.
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms.
Even if the website has no visitors it will NOT be deleted.
Free domain as a gift (e.g. website.com), when you pay for an entire year.
Subscription fee for the E-shop module.
Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel.

Also we get no Subscription fee for the E-shop module as a separate service.
However the separate services for 1 year gives :

Remove Ad Banner - 32.29$
Disk space +2500 Mb - 64.69$
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms - 10.69$
Option to hide statistics counter - 21.49$
Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel - 10.80$

Total : 139.96$ vs 77.88$ for Advanced package but no E-shop module in the separate package !

The Premium package for 107.88$ for 1 year.

Removal of uCoz copyright.

Again we get no Subscription fee for the E-shop module as a separate service.
However the separate services for 1 year gives :

Remove Ad Banner - 32.29$
Disk space +2500 Mb - 64.69$
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms - 10.69$
Option to hide statistics counter - 21.49$
Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel - 10.80$
Removal of uCoz copyright - 53.89$

Total : 193.85$ vs 107.88$ for Advanced package but no E-shop module in the separate package !

Analysis - About Price

1. The separate services are two times (2X) more expensive than the identical packages except the basic package where the separate services are three times (3X) more expensive than the basic package

2. The separate services that are only two times (2X) more expensive than the identical packages lack the very important e-shop module ! So in a way they are also closer to three times (3X) more expensive.

3. The separate services are completely useless as they never provide any king of versatile alternative to packages or similar value that packages have. A change is needed in terms of pricing.

Analysis - About What People Want

1. The most desired features are in this order :

a) No Ads on the site because a site with huge ads is not functional. (the number 1 website maker in the world does not use such type of ads)

b) No uCoz copyright (each page links to uCoz) this makes the page rank of each page to be shared with uCoz. Question ! How much page rank is given to uCoz by making each page link to uCoz.com site ?

c) E-shop module OR More Disk Space are approximately equal ( depending on user needs - sometimes e-shop having the upper edge, but many times not )

Observation : The ads in control panel are not very important since they don't affect a user too much, although i can see why this is used as a way to better get some money out of the platform.

Analysis - Things that don't work well

1. Everything above premium (Developer, Developer+) needs to have : "Removal of uCoz copyright" included or simply be replaced by their better versions : (Premium +, Ultra ) that already have it. I don't imagine anyone that is skilled enough in using PHP and making such a sophisticated site to even think about sharing page rank with uCoz.

2. Also the Advanced package that again contains the "Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel" that bothers nobody should be replaced by premium package.

Question : What happens if your premium package expires today and by tomorrow you renew it and by that time Google just passed and saw your site (with links to uCoz on each page) and thus lowered your page rank (since you shared it) ? Will it give it back the next time is checks your site ? ( uCoz does indeed have a directory but only links one time to you while you link with every page to uCoz )

If anyone wants to discuss the whole thing please go ahead. Constructive talk is welcomed.
Sunny, if you can answer the questions and state your opinion on this matter it would be great.

Dear Urs,

Thank you very much for your analysis, feed-back and general suggestions for our company.

We are always greateful when one of our long time users shares his thoughts about the ways on how we can improve our system and especially to a more sensitive issue like the paid package structure.

From a vision related perspective, we want to offer users the possibility to be flexible choosing exactly what they want, separately and not being binded to a Paid Package. Our system was created with a complete oppeness, even though, by definition it is a website builder tied to a hosting and having a closed source code.
Through its free package, the system itself offers more than any other site builder and the separate service offer is also unique from this perspective.
For example, if a user desires extra disk space for his website, we do not want him to be binded to a full package. The cost for getting that option is lower, compared to the case when the user is buying a full package which contain that specific option.

Let's consider the scenario when a user has already a Ultra Package activated, which has 10.000 MB included disk space and he wants 10.000 aditionally,
he can simply purchase separately that amount, as there is no premium package which includes 20.000 MB of disk space that can be purchased separately.

I can reveal that, in the near future, there will be an update for the paid package structure, which will make the current one much more compact and simplier to use.

As for the Ad removal suggestions - this is our business model and if any adjustments will occur, we will definitely inform all our users. I'll update you shortly about the PR concerns.

Also we have to remind that uCoz, through its free version offers combined features like:

- Possibility for the user to connect his own domain
- Full HTML5/CSS3 access
- Unlimited bandwidth and increasing to unlimited disk space
- FTP access
- Possibility to create websites with unlimited number of pages

I invite you to check this website builder comparison and observe the benefits offered by each website builder in the free versions.

For any other observations, please contact us.

Hello Raver and thank you for your kind words.

I will start with two questions :

a) What happens when your e-shop module package expires and you renew it a month later for example ? Does the whole e-shop module gets deleted or simply becomes inactive and no one can use it until a new payment is made ?

b) What happens when extra MB expire and i renew the package a month later? Do the site space gets deleted ? Do files get deleted that are over the maximum size limit or simply you can't add anything else until you delete yourself the files ?

Also interested in the page rank issue and how much page rank is drained to uCoz normally.

The truth is that customers will always go for the lower prices and not binding people is a good idea but tricking them is obviously bad - and no company wants to give that impression. This must be avoided.

uCoz is indeed providing for free the most features and a customer of uCoz in order to have a proper site he needs to at least remove the ads - to buy the basic paid package - to have a functional site that doesn't interfere with users. This is a well known fact.

Let's consider the scenario when a user has already a Ultra Package activated, which has 10.000 MB included disk space and he wants 10.000 additionally, he can simply purchase separately that amount, as there is no premium package which includes 20.000 MB of disk space that can be purchased separately.

Let's take a closer look :

The Ultra package for 275.88$ for 1 year gives :

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +10000 Mb.
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 4 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 460 Mb (via FTP only).
Removal of uCoz copyright.
Use of limited PHP scripts.

No Subscription fee for the E-shop module as a separate service exists.
However the separate services for 1 year gives :

Remove Ad Banner - 32.29$
Disk space +10 000 Mb - 215.78$
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms - 10.69$
Option to hide statistics counter - 21.49$
Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel - 10.80$
Removal of uCoz copyright - 53.89$
Use of limited PHP scripts - 21.49 $

Total : 366.43$ vs 275.88$ for Ultra package that gives the same or more.

Observation : You are asking a heavy premium for separate services (not logical price policy) and the only scenario when a user would benefit from such a service (because the rest of them simply overwrite one another - they are repetitive thus useless) would be when he explicitly requires the extra +MB but even then only after he got the Ultra package first that includes all the essential stuff at a much lower price.

In other words :

The only case when you need a separate package is when you require extra MB and you already have ULTRA. Because otherwise it is cheaper and better to simply go first for ULTRA to get 10 000 MB with all the essential bonuses included rather than buying 10 000 MB while having a site with ads, no e-shop module, full of copyright links, no php etc.

Why pay almost again the Ultra package (+10 000 MB costs 215.78$ ) just for 10 000 MB ? There is no reason for doing so.

Moreover buying the Premium package (107.88$) with no PHP and only + 2500 MB and adding PHP - 21.49 $ and also + 2500 MB (64.69$) = 194.06$ BUT you get exactly the same if you buy Premium+ package for 155.88$ !

I saw you added : Google AdWords promo code if you pay for 6 mon. or more. However i don't think this is a benefit at all since it only gives you a reduction on something that costs Google nothing to offer. Moreover the user must pay something to Google to benefit from this "imaginary" reduction.

The idea is not to spam the list of paid services with lots of useless entries. Most users don't care about Google advertising platform. (don't forget that Google didn't accept ad-sense on uCoz system - since they are adversaries and uCoz ended up with huge ad banners that in most EU countries were not welcomed ). We talked about this 100 times.

You understood me wrong. What i showed was : the order in which uCoz customers prefer the premium services (the ones that are vital to them) NOT that uCoz needs to change and remove the ads for free. OK ?

The order is Ads removal > copyright page rank link removal > e-shop = more space.

1. Are separate services going the be reconsidered as well as paid package structure ?
2. "Much more compact"
Now you have 8 paid packages.

If i were the owner i would change it this way (3 services + some extra ):

Basic (2.5$) (30$ a year vs 37$ now)

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +400 Mb. (not 800)
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 1 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 60 Mb (via FTP only).
Option to hide statistics counter.
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms.
Even if the website has no visitors it will NOT be deleted.
No free domain as a gift when you pay for an entire year.

A domain is at least 10$ a year.

uCoz wins :
3$ from not giving a domain name. (37$-10$ = 27$ now gets 30$)
Giving only +400MB vs +800MB

Customer wins :
Less priced Basic package that basically makes a site functional. Does not have the same space.

***

Premium (7.50$) (90$ a year vs 107.88$ now)

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +1500 Mb. (not 2500)
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 2 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 90Mb (not 135 Mb) (via FTP only).
Option to hide statistics counter.
Option to attach files in E-mail Forms.
Even if the website has no visitors it will NOT be deleted.
No free domain as a gift when you pay for an entire year.
Subscription fee for the E-shop module.
Removal of uCoz ads in Control Panel.
Removal of uCoz copyright.

uCoz wins :
10$ from not giving a domain name. (107.88$-10$ = 97.88$, now gets 90$ )
Giving only +1500MB vs +2500MB
Uploading - 90 Mb not 135 Mb

Customer wins :
Less priced Premium package that offers everything except PHP.. Also not the same space & upload size.

***

Ultra (10$ vs 12.99$) (120$ a year vs 155.88$ now)

Removal of uCoz ads on the website.
Disk space +2500 Mb. (not 5000)
Bonus messages to Technical Support - 3 per month.
FTP access.
File size for uploading - 135 Mb (not 245 Mb) (via FTP only).
Use of limited PHP scripts.

uCoz wins :
10$ from not giving a domain name. (155.88$-10$ = 145.88$, now gets 120$ )
Giving only +2500MB vs +5000MB
Uploading - 135 Mb not 245 Mb

Customer wins :
Less priced Ultra package that offers everything, although not the same space & upload size.

***

Separate services by uCoz :
Disk space +5000 Mb AND File size for uploading - 245 Mb (via FTP only) - price?
Disk space +10 000 Mb AND File size for uploading - 460 Mb (via FTP only) - price?
Extra +10 000 - price?

3. "simpler to use"
Does this mean the new redesigned control panel for mobile gadgets ?

I am afraid the new update will only increase the prices for all packages - basic, e-shop module, copyright link and PHP while also adding "free" things no one uses like the recently added Google stuff. From a marketing point of view that would be bad.

I hope i am wrong Raver, but this is what usually happens with changes.
Instead of going down and be very competitive they go up.

Waiting for a reply.

Thank you.

a) The module stays activated but it cannot be used further. When another payment will incur, it will be unfrozen and everything resumed
b) No files are deleted even if the amount which hasn't been paid for has been surpassed and you will not be able to add extra files.
1) Mainly our Paid Package structure. Modifications might appear for the separate services as well.
2) We cannot give exact information but we are talking about a maximum amount of 4 paid packages in the near future.
3) Applications for website management and development are pending in development. Meanwhile you can check our newly released app for Android.

The pricing structure will be modified in the benefit of our user, as it has always been done. Currently, we offer the most competitive price-quality structure in the website builders market and surely we want to keep it like that.

Urs, we cannot tell you precisely but the end of Q1 2015 is definitely the final deadline. Anyways, we will do our best for the revamp to be ready before the end of 2014, in synch with the new version of the Control Panel.
