I closed my website down for the moment because I cannot get the first container to work. ANYTHING I put in there won't show up. I place a template in it and it is completely blank! I have even gotten another template from my recent back up save, but it won't work for my recent save. If I restore all templates then it works, but I worked too hard to start all over.

Maybe you have remove $GLOBAL_CLEFTER$ part from all modules, in that case no mater what you put in 1'st container it will not show up on site. Also that would be undone if you restore default template so it's most logical answer because you say that is exactly what is happening to you.
